Who we are

BeSafer is part of the charity Safer which specialises in supporting and empowering victims of domestic abuse. BeSafer is run by our young people services, who work with children and young people who have either experienced domestic abuse in their own homes or in their own intimate relationships.

Education Team

Our Domestic and Sexual Abuse Education Workers deliver lessons to young people in school years 6 to 13. Topics include identifying healthy and unhealthy relationships, supporting friends, challenging stereotypes, and knowing where to find help and how to stay safe.

They also run drop-ins once a term at all the secondary schools during lunchtime and at youth clubs for a more chill setting to talk about issues young people may be experiencing within their family or personal relationships.

CYPVA’s

Our CYPVA’s work with children and young people aged 4-21 who have experienced Domestic Abuse in their own homes or in their own relationships.

A young person will be assigned one of the team to work with them in a way that is appropriate for their age and need, with the focus always being on safety and well-being. Their support is all about what’s best for you and moving at a pace that feels right. You can also talk to a trusted adult who could then make contact. The service is confidential within specific limitations and these are explained below.

If you are a student in the UK and need help, visit safelives.org.uk/about-domestic-abuse/get-help-support/ and scroll down for helplines and more.

Confidentiality

You can speak to someone at Safer in confidence and we won’t tell other people what you have said. We only might need to say or do something if:

You ask us to.

  • We believe that your life or someone else’s life is in danger.
  • You are being hurt by someone in a position of trust, who is able to hurt other children.
  • You tell us you are seriously hurting other people.
  • You tell us about another child who is being hurt and is not able to tell someone or understand what is happening to them.
  • We are told we have to by law as an example for a court case.

Feedback

We want to hear what you think about our services so we can keep getting better. If you’ve had a good or bad experience with our Education Team or CYPVAs then please get in contact via www.safer.gg.

BeSafer is part of the charity Safer, which specialises in supporting and empowering victims of domestic abuse. The service is run by our dedicated team, including our Child and Young Person Violence Advisors (CYPVAs), who work directly with children and young people affected by domestic abuse, whether in their own homes or in their intimate relationships.

Alongside them, our Domestic and Sexual Abuse Education Workers deliver age-appropriate sessions in schools from Year 6 to Year 13, helping young people understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Together, they provide a caring, all-round approach to supporting and educating young people.
