What should I do if I think my parent/carer is being abusive?

It can feel very scary and isolating if you feel unsafe at home. If someone at home is using abusive behaviour, it is never ok, no matter who is doing it and what your relationship to them is. Even if the abuse is not directly aimed at you, it can still make you feel really upset, scared and angry. It is completely normal to feel like this, and there is help available.

Keep yourself safe

The most important thing you can do is to keep yourself safe. The abuse isn’t your fault, and it is also not your responsibility to stop the fighting, violence or abuse as this could put you in danger. The best thing to do is call 999 if you are scared or talk to an adult you trust.
